Publication scheme

Adopting a publication scheme is a requirement of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. This Act promotes greater openness and accountability across the public sector by requiring all 'public authorities' to make information available proactively, through a publication scheme.

Our publication scheme describes the information we publish, or intend to publish. In this context, 'publish' means to make information available, routinely. The information is divided into 'classes' depending on its type. The scheme is not a list of the actual publications, because this will change as new material is published or existing material revised. It is, however, our commitment to make the information described available.

Questions

If any information does not appear to be listed in our publication scheme, please contact the University's Information Compliance Officer (see contact details at the top of the page).

Limits of disclosure

There are some grounds on which the University may refuse to provide information. These include:

  • where (under the Data Protection Act) we are required to maintain the confidentiality of personal information
  • when the cost of providing the information - locating, retrieving and extracting the information requested - exceeds £450
  • where the information being requested is commercially confidential.

Charges

Most of the information contained in the Publication Scheme and listed in the guide to information can be downloaded from the website free of charge. Where information is provided in hard copy form, the University does not normally make a charge for the minor costs of disbursements. However, where disbursements, such as printing, copying and postage, are significant the University does reserve the right to make a charge to cover its actual administrative costs. If this is the case, the University will issue an appropriate fees notice to the individual requesting the information.

Datasets

Copies of requested datasets will be published on the most appropriate pages of the University’s website depending on their contents. The terms of any specified licence will be indicated at the time of publication.
