Student-Athlete Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing support for our student-athletes is important because it helps them to maintain a healthy balance between their academic and athletic pursuits.

Student-athletes can face unique challenges such as time management, stress, and loneliness due to the demands of a busy academic and athletic schedule.

Mental wellbeing support can provide student-athletes with the resources they need to manage these challenges, while also helping them to maintain a healthy lifestyle and perform at their best.

We are committed to ensuring our student-athletes have access to the support they need, when they need it, in whatever way works best for them. We provide a range of options, available internally and externally, in-person or off-campus, and confidentially or openly.

Wellbeing Officers

Our TEAMBrookes Sports Clubs are student-led, meaning that students volunteer to lead their club and teams each season. Every one of our sports clubs has a trained Wellbeing Officer or representative on their committee.

If you ever have any questions about what it is like to join a sports club, or if you require any kind of support, the Wellbeing Officer is a great first point of contact. As they are students themselves, they are there to listen and point you in the direction of potential avenues of support.

It is important to remember that if you are struggling with your wellbeing or have any other issues that you want to raise, you can always approach a staff member for help.

Sporting Wellness

On World Mental Health Day we announced a new partnership with Sporting Wellness, which provides all of our representative TEAMBrookes student-athletes with FREE confidential access to mental health and emotional wellbeing support.

Resources include:

  • 24/7/365 support helpline
  • Free counselling sessions
  • Self-help resources on topics such as: family & relationships issues, legal & financial guidance, bereavement & loss, phone & cyber bullying, sleep hygiene, social media addiction, etc.
  • Wellbeing Officer and team workshops

You do not have to think you are suffering from a diagnosable mental health disorder to use the Sporting Wellness support system. No matter what your mental state is, making a proactive choice for positive mental wellness is as beneficial as making the proactive choice for positive physical health.

Remember, you are never alone and there is always someone to talk to.

To access support, head to the Sporting Wellness website, click on 'Get Support' and use the stakeholder code: SW001

Sports Psychology

We are delighted to be working with Ollie Spensley-Corfield of Think 2 Win to support our Performance Teams and TASS athletes through Sports Psychology sessions as part of their performance support.

Based at the Centre for Sport on Headington campus, Ollie will be available during semester 1 on:

  • Mondays 14:00 - 19:00
  • Tuesdays 11:00 - 16:00
  • Thursdays 08:00 - 13:00

Any TEAMBrookes student-athlete and TASS athletes can access support via these 1-2-1 drop-in sessions during these times. Please click here to book a session.

As a former elite athlete, it’s brilliant to be able to provide the opportunity for our students to speak to an experienced, yet relatable individual who understands the importance of positive mental wellbeing on sports performance.
