We are looking forward to welcoming our new international students from across the world in January 2024.

We recognise that coming to study in the UK is an exciting time but can also feel a little daunting. There will be plenty of support in place to help you settle into life at Oxford Brookes University.

Visas and immigration

In order to study your course at Oxford Brookes, some international students will need to have a Student visa.

You will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, known as a CAS, to apply for a Student visa. You can find more information about the CAS application process on the Starting a new course page. The Applicant Compliance Team will issue your CAS. To contact the team:

Please note, all students need to complete our online enrolment process. If you are not a UK national, you also need to complete the Right to Study checks, whether or not you need a visa.

Travel advice

ISAT offers advice on travelling to the UK, including what to expect at border control and when going through customs. They also explain the most common ways of travelling to Oxford from London and a number of major UK airports.

International Student Advice Team (ISAT)

We have a dedicated team to support all our international students. ISAT provides lots of resources before you arrive and a wide range of welcome activities for when you get here.

ISAT can help you with:

  • advice on travelling to the UK and how to get to Oxford
  • support on finding your way around the University and Oxford once you have arrived
  • social events you can join to help you make friends
  • workshops you can attend to help you settle into the UK
  • advice on opening bank accounts
  • any questions you may have about your Student visa.

Opening a bank account

ISAT offers advice on opening a bank account, including the documentation you'll need to bring with you. The bank will ask for proof that you are a student and have a UK address. This is called an 'attendance certificate' and you can download it yourself once you have enrolled.

Workshops and events

ISAT will be running workshops and events available to all new international students. If you'd like to get involved, full details are available on the ISAT events page.

Welcome session for exchange and study abroad students

If you are an exchange and study abroad student, you are invited to join a welcome session with the Global Exchanges Team.

  • Monday 22 January, 11:00am - 12:00am
  • JHB308 (Kennedy Lecture Theatre), John Henry Brookes Building, Headington Campus

For the full list of events over Induction Week and the first few weeks of semester, including ISAT workshops and social events, please see our events calendar.

Your course induction

Remember, during Induction Week your course induction is your priority - you must make sure you attend it. However, you are welcome to attend as many other events as you like during your free time. You will be able to view your course induction, and see when your free time is, from Thursday 4 January onwards.
