Train the trainer programme

  • Who is it for?

This programme has been designed for people who are required to deliver training sessions for their department. It starts from the premise that delegates are new to this subject area.

This programme requires a manager nomination as it represents a considerable investment of time and places are limited.  Delegates will need to determine what training they are planning to deliver back in the workplace.

    The format of the programme

Part 1: 2 day workshop (spread approximately a week apart) which will include some prior preparation by the delegate for a general training session on day 2.

Part 2: Delegate preparation: Delegates will have approximately a month to prepare a training session lasting 30 minutes. This session should relate to a department specific need agreed with the manager.

Part 3: 1 day workshop: Delegates will deliver their training session to the group. This will be set against train the trainer criteria which will be outlined in part 1.

    Learning objectives

By the end of this programme delegates will be able to design and deliver an effective training session.

    This will include:

    • Identify 4 key learning styles describing how this impacts upon an individuals learning.

    • State the benefits of having clear learning objectives.

    • Describe the 3 phases of a learning event.

    • Plan accurate learning events with support material that reflect real practice and appropriate types of information

    • Explain how you will encourage learner participation and control group dynamics.

    • Demonstrate effective questioning techniques.

    • Use training tools and visual supports demonstrating how these can engage the learner.

    • Carry out a group learning event at a pace sequence that maximises the level of learning

    • Encourage learner participation, control group dynamics and use skills of analysis and evaluation to promote learning.

    • Identify two training activities and write appropriate objectives for these learning events

  • If you are unable to attend a course we require 5 working days' notice of non-attendance, otherwise a cancellation charge of £50 will be made for each day of a course (or part thereof).

    • Thank you very much for the Train the Trainer sessions which I did enjoy. They have given me plenty of ideas and much to think about to improve the quality of my training.
Alex Friend, Training and Development Specialist, OBIS

    • It was both really practical and also hugely valuable for helping me reflect on my own beliefs about how to convey information in a group.
