Working with international students

    Who is it for?

    This is a new course aimed at both support and academic colleagues who work with international students and would like to be more responsive to their needs.

    The aim of the programme

    The aim of the programme is to enhance intercultural awareness and build confidence and competence in their work supporting international students in all aspects of their student experience. 

    The programme will include:

    • Exploring cultural diversity theory and how this informs our interactions with international students
    • Barriers to cross cultural communication and tips on how to communicate effectively with students whose first language is not English
    • Discussing ‘culture shock’ and its potential impact on students
    • Hearing from Brookes international students about their experience
    • Discussing frustrations, challenges and opportunities in working with international students
