Institutional projects

We run and support a range of institutional projects to enhance teaching excellence across Oxford Brookes University, including Inclusive teaching, Inspiring teaching and TESTA fast-track.

Inclusive teaching

Inclusive teaching is a comprehensive range of teaching and learning resources to support the institutions commitment to inclusive teaching through the delivery of both critical and creative approaches to embed incisive practice into the curricula, assessment, teaching and learning resources and activities. Inspiring teaching - is a coordinated programme of activity focusing on the design and delivery of inspiring teaching and learning environments across Oxford Brookes University.

Inspiring teaching (including digital accessibility and assessment)

To underpin the Inspiring Teaching Inclusive Learning offer in 2020/21, there are two essential online sessions for all academic staff:

  • Creating digitally accessible teaching and learning materials - to support staff in meeting the accessibility regulations that were mandated from 23 September 2019 there is a Brookes Accessibility Checklist offers simple instructions on how to prepare teaching and learning materials to meet the regulations and the new Digital Accessibility Guidelines (Self-Directed) Moodle Course for all staff that is recommended for academic and professional services staff that create pages or documents for use by students. This course has been designed to get staff working with live documents and presentations and to see how to check if materials are accessible and then, crucially, to give practice in fixing any errors.
  • How do students know what ‘good’ and ‘excellent’ looks like in an assessment? - This online session looks at how to embed a shared understanding of the assessment criteria within your programme/module teams and with your students to support them developing a stronger understanding of how they apply to their own assessments and to assure clarity of marking.

TESTA fast-track

We are championing the use of TESTA (Transforming the Experience of Students through Assessment) fast-track to support programme teams in identifying and preparing timely and focused educational development strategies aligned to student feedback (for example NSS/ PTES) for a programme. TESTA fast-track is an adapted version of TESTA, which is an international education enhancement intervention based on research evidence.

TESTA fast-track enables programme teams to obtain the views and experiences of their continuing students in an engaging, structured and facilitated format and then the programme team reflect and respond to the information in the light of student feedback data. The twin emphases of TESTA fast-track is to identify what continuing students can do to support their own learning and, what the programme team can action in the short, medium and long term.

OCSLD are running TESTA fast-track with a number of programmes across the Faculty’s this year and during 2020/21. If you are a programme lead interested in OCSLD running TESTA fast-track or would like to know more, please contact ocsld@brookes.ac.uk.
