Occupational Health (OH) is concerned with how work and the work environment can affect an employee's health, and how employee health can affect a person's ability to do the job. The OH department aims to provide a high quality, responsive advice and support service to managers and employees at Oxford Brookes University.
The OH Service at Brookes has both a day-to-day and strategic role. The service provided is:
- advisory
- confidential
- impartial.
OH will work with managers and staff to:
- prevent ill health by assessing and minimising risks to employees heath, safety and well-being
- support people to help keep them in work and, when absent because of health problems, help to get them back to work
- promote healthy lifestyles.
The department delivers a range of services to employees and managers at the University including:
- advice on fitness for work
- access to support including counselling
- health surveillance and screening
- advice on first aid arrangements.
The OH service is staffed by two part-time OH Advisers and two part-time Administrators.
OH Advisers are experienced registered nurses with specialist postgraduate qualifications in occupational health nursing.
Trained First-aiders are located within Faculties and Directorates to respond to first aid incidents across the University.
