Centre for Academic Development

The Centre for Academic Development has expert tutors who are experienced in working with postgraduate research students to develop study skills, maths and statistics, and academic English.

Although your supervisors are your primary source of guidance, it can often help to talk to an expert in student learning who is outside your main supervisory team. We can help you develop areas that supplement the skills focused on in supervisory meetings.

At the Centre for Academic Development we can provide objective, confidential advice on topics such as:

  • Time management for research projects
  • Working with supervisors
  • Statistics and data analysis
  • Academic English for research communication
  • Conference presentations and posters
  • Critical thinking

To book a 40 minute one-to-one session with a tutor, please email: academicdev@brookes.ac.uk

For more details about our services see the Centre for Academic Development website.

The Centre for Academic Development also coordinates the Writing Hub which brings together researchers, students, and staff involved in all forms of writing across Oxford Brookes.

The Writing Hub organises guest speaker events, writing retreats and opportunities for supporting each other in our writing. Our events are well attended by postgraduate research students from all departments. See the Writing Hub events page for more on our next events and writing retreats.
