Do you want to use your lockdown exercise to raise money for cancer support charity, Maggie’s Centre? Then our Directorate of Estates and Campus Services has set just the challenge for you.
You can take part in weekend challenges – set at three different levels, depending on how much you want to push yourself and how much time you have. Or daily challenges where you can take a break from your studies and get out in the fresh air to clock up a few miles.
We are hoping that Oxford Brookes suppliers will sponsor us per mile to walk, run or cycle. The more miles we complete, the more money we raise so our target is to amass as many miles as possible.
Last weekend, Brookes staff defied the weather to cover nearly 800 miles – but with students now taking part, we hope to smash that this weekend!
The ECS lockdown challenge continues over the next two weekends. Each weekend will get a bit tougher as we aim to go beyond our own expectations.
Once you’re signed up, you can record how far you walk, run or cycle (nb cycling miles are worth 50% of walking or running miles) using this Google form.
Different activity levels have been set, you can choose from:
- Level 1 - Walk, run or cycle* 10k (6 miles)
- Level 2 - Walk, run or cycle* 20k (12 miles)
- Level 3 - Walk, run or cycle* 30k (18 miles)
Weekend 1: 20-21 November - run, walk or cycle 10k, 20k or 30k, distances can be completed over two days.
Weekend 2: 28-29 November - photo scavenger hunt
Weekend 3: 5-6 December - challenge yourself! Beat your personal best, run, walk or cycle further or faster than you have ever had.
While you are taking part in the challenge, you can also enter our photo competition. Whether it be landscape, nature, landmarks or humour please send them via the WhatsApp group (remember to include your mobile number on the sign up form to join the WhatsApp group). From the 12 photos, judged the best, we will create a 2021 calendar to raise money for charity. They will be available to buy online before Christmas and can be mailed to your home.
Oxford charity Maggie’s Centre based at The Churchill Hospital will benefit from the money raised. Find out more about the amazing work they do on their website.
