Staff and learning development

We recognise the value of learning and career development and therefore offer a wide range of courses, work-based interventions for individuals and teams. The broad portfolio encompasses teaching and learning, leadership and management, coaching and mentoring and career development.

We have a dedicated centre for Academic Enhancement and Development. The Centre runs the EXPLORE programme. 

Our EXPLORE programme provides knowledge and skill development to support HE teaching practice, teaching scholarship, leadership and research, knowledge exchange and innovation. It is the continuing professional development framework for anyone on an academic or research contract at Brookes. It includes tailored study routes for those in their first three years with time to complete granted.

The intention of EXPLORE programme is to support all academic and research staff with personalised, relevant and timely professional development that is career-wide and career-long.

For academics and research-active staff

  • EXPLORE - provides structured, personalised learning pathways for new academic staff to develop their research, leadership, teaching and scholarship. A wide range of workshops and briefings, delivered between October to June, are available to any staff member to attend. Following one of the structured programmes enables staff to gain Associate Fellowship and Fellowship of the HEA. This is delivered in collaboration with the Researcher Development Team.

For teaching staff

  • PSF Pathway - offers mentoring and support to achieve professional recognition (Senior and Principal Fellowship of the HEA) for leading teaching and supporting student learning.
  • Teaching and Learning - curates events, resources and opportunities that enable all staff at Brookes to teach confidently and effectively and to contribute to the growing community of teaching scholars. For example, find information on using the digital tools, Moodle, Zoom and Panopto and Padlet, on inclusive teaching practice Inclusive Digital Teacher and join networks of colleagues such as Scholarship Groups and the growing Teaching and Learning Community.
  • Academic Advising - practical evidence-based resource detailing the frequency, suggested content and providing links to the wider support for students at Brookes.
