Chairs and secretaries of local residents' associations are invited to attend a bi-annual meeting with the Vice Chancellor and relevant members of staff, including key members of the University's Estates, Facilities and Communications teams. The forum provides an opportunity for local representatives to be updated on the university's developments and to discuss how they relate to the wider community.
Brookes also holds bi-annual meetings that aim to bring together local city and county councillors to meet with senior staff from the University. This provides an opportunity for councillors to be updated on the university's developments and to discuss how they relate to the wider community. Consideration is also given to the university's current and future proposals to reduce any negative local impact.
Every year Brookes and the Brookes Union jointly organise a Christmas event for around 160 older members of the community who have supported Brookes over the years. The event takes place at the Centre for Sport on Headington Campus, Gipsy Lane site and features performances from students across the University and includes acts such as Encore (Orchestral and Choral Society) and the Jazz Society. Afternoon refreshments are available and guests have the opportunity to participate in a game of bingo. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alistair Fitt, attends to thank the residents for their support.
