Brookes Science Bazaar 2013

Who this event is for

  • Everyone

Headington Campus, Gipsy Lane site

Discover the secret behind a dinosaur’s speed...explore the hidden world of cells...learn some practical magic...just some of the exciting hands-on activities at the Brookes Science Bazaar!

From genes and cells, brains and health to dinosaurs and optical illusions: Brookes Science Bazaar returns with a mix of old favourites and new activities! Meet our researchers, find out about their work and have a go at doing real science yourself. Whatever you do, prepare yourself to be surprised and amazed at our free science day for the whole family.

Join us at our Gipsy Lane Campus for a range of drop-in sessions and competitions for children aged 5-15 years. Run and organised by staff and students from across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment plus the Gray Institute for Radiation Oncology.

  • Dynamic Dinosaurs
Explore how giant dinosaurs moved despite their size and investigate how you would fare if pitched against these deadly predators if they roamed the earth in 2013.
  • ZOOM-IN: The little world of cells
Ever wondered what a mushroom looks like up close? Or the cells in your body? Come along and have a go looking at tiny cells under a microscope. You can even bring along you own object to see what it looks like zoomed-in!
  • Two Handed Magic
Demonstration of a Magical Programme helping children with a weak/paralysed hand do two-handed tasks.
  • Fabulous Flowers
Roses are red, violets are blue. We know what they're made of, but do you too? We'll take flowers apart to have a really good look at them.

 ...and much more!
