About the Tutors
Dr Surja Datta, Senior Lecturer, Oxford Brookes University and Module Leader - Global Strategy and Innovation - a core module of the Brookes Global MBA Programme (7th on QS Global Rankings).
Surja has published extensively including books, book chapters, and journal articles. His research interests include business history, innovation, and creativity. His current research is focused on understanding and explaining the 'creative milieu' phenomenon, extraordinarily creative places that have come into being, across time and space, albeit for limited duration. Surja’s forthcoming book (co-authored with co tutor Sandeep) ‘Unlocking Strategic Innovation: Delivering Competitive Advantage in Global Digital Environments’, concerns itself with one main question: how firms attain achieve competitive advantage in a fast-changing business landscape. Surja is a prolific public speaker, his talks covering a range of topics, from management to philosophy.
Mr Sandeep Roychowdhury, Management Consultant, Business Growth Specialist and Guest Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University Business School.
A computer science engineer and MBA, Sandeep spent over 25 years consulting globally across diverse functional areas, and sectors such as banking and finance. This enabled him to see businesses with a 360-degree view –
embracing income growth, costs, systems, operations and people. As an intrapreneur and big picture person, he continually questions the status quo in companies and helps his clients find ways to increase customer value.
When far-reaching technical innovation started to affect traditional business models in the digital economy, he realised the need for SME’s to understand the impact of these changes. In 2017, he left the corporate environment to use his business innovation skills to help SMEs adapt to the new digital borderless marketplace. Sandeep combines technical expertise with innovation and business coaching techniques to help ambitious businesses, owners and entrepreneurs create, grow, build better businesses and find more time.
The two tutors are currently working on their book 'Unlocking Strategic Innovation: Delivering Competitive Advantage in Global Digital Environments' to be published by Routledge later in the year. The 'Disrupt or be Disrupted' Masterclass incorporates several key insights from the book.
“What we need to do is always lean into the future; when the world changes around you and when it changes against you – what used to be a tail wind is now a head wind – you have to lean into that and figure out what to do because complaining isn’t a strategy.”
