NECS On-line lecture series: Kevin Smets - Migration and visual cultures: methodological reflections and strategies
This event has now finished. Please see our events website for details of upcoming events at Brookes.
Who this event is for
Building on several mostly audience-centred studies on migration and visual cultures, I discuss in this presentation a range of methodological reflections. These reflections are intended to develop strategies to (a) overcome methodological nationalism; (b) avoid ethnocentrism as well as (c) mediacentrism. Inspired by my ongoing research, I will also share some reflections on participatory methods and visual methods and how to mobilize them in the context of migration and diaspora.
The Media and Migration Online Lecture Series is co-organized by Giuseppe Fidotta (Concordia University), Mara Mattoscio (“Gabriele d’Annunzio” University of Pescara), and Dalila Missero (Oxford Brookes University), with the support of NECS and the Centre for Research in the Arts at Oxford Brookes.
