Who this event is for
JHB Lecture Theatre, John Henry Brookes Building, Headington Campus
In what will be the 800th anniversary year of Magna Carta, we are delighted that two former chancellors –Helena Kennedy QC and Jon Snow – will be returning to join our present chancellor, Shami Chakrabarti CBE in discussion. Shami will begin by exploring why our fundamental rights and freedoms are indispensable and the unprecedented pressures those rights are under today.
Drawing on her own work in high-profile campaigns, from privacy laws to anti-terror legislation, she will show the threats to our democratic institutions and why our rights are paramount in upholding democracy.
Magna Carta enshrined the Rule of Law in English Society as agreed by King John on 15 June 1215. It is the foundation stone supporting all our freedom.
