Details

This discussion chaired by Michael Buick a current student at Rycotewood, will focus on the future of furniture making in a changing world. Key contributors will include award winning furniture designer Sebastian Cox and Rick Mower, Managing Director of Raw Workshop.

The Sebastian Cox workshop, studio and mill were founded on the principle that a traditional approach can be radical and that the past can be used to design and make the future. Together with Ninela Ivanova, they have created their own laboratory of biofacture using the remarkable and ancient material relationship between wood and mycelium (fungus) to grow contemporary furniture.

Raw Workshop produce high quality products and services and work with many corporate, education, local government and private customers. They employ, train and support people from communities who face prejudice and barriers to work.Over 85% of their team will be striving to succeed in the face of issues such as physical or learning difficulties, mental health illness, recovery from addiction and criminal histories.
