Details

Three writers, Professor David Nash, Peter Furtado and Professor Mary Chamberlain, share the dilemmas facing every writer, academic or creative, when writing about history, including using source material, language and narrative, and how to convey the otherness of the past.

David Nash is an historian at Oxford Brookes University and author of Blasphemy in the Christian World and Christian Ideas in British Society: Stories of Belief in the Twentieth Century. Peter Furtado is a former editor of History Today and author of Histories of Nations: How Their Identities Were Forged and 1001: Days That Shaped Our World. Mary Chamberlain is emeritus professor of history at Oxford Brookes University and has published widely on women’s history, oral history and Caribbean history. Her historical novel, The Dressmaker of Dachau, is published in April 2015.
