The growth in vehicle ownership in global mega
cities and the consequent rise in air pollution has led to significant health
concerns and political pressure to accelerate the adoption of clean,
sustainable urban transport. Motor sport competition has long been recognised
as being effective in spurring technological innovation in automotive
technologies, but its impact to date in the environment realm has been limited.
The launch of global electric vehicle championship by the FIA represents a
turning point in the role of motor racing to promote and develop
environmentally sustainable transport. This presentation will analyse the
background and likely impacts of these developments.
Refreshments will be provided.
