This course advances the exploration of the grapes variety and how this influences the styles produced around the world. The course not only covers variety and regions but also sparkling, sweet and fortified styles and introduces the subject of spirits. Comparative tastings and the discussion of food pairing are the key components of every lesson as is the understanding of the label to help you make informed choices.

This course covers:

  • How wine is made and other factors influencing the style of wine
  • Key white grape varieties
  • Key black grape varieties
  • Wine-producing regions of the world
  • Sparkling wines
  • Sweet wines and fortified wines
  • Spirits and liqueurs
  • Label terminology
  • Food and wine pairing
  • The WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine

To gain the qualification, students need to pass a multiple-choice paper of 50 questions. The qualification is popular with all wine and spirit employees as well as the passionate consumer.

Please note that this course runs for six Wednesday evenings. 6pm start on each day.
