Thursday, 13 September 2018
Officially taking to Oxford’s roads from next week will be six brand-new buses launched by Oxford Brookes.
In partnership with the Oxford Bus Company, the iconic BROOKESbus has been given a makeover, with six, individually-designed buses showcasing a range of future career opportunities on offer at the University.
The buses were unveiled at Venturefest Oxford, the county’s premier networking event for businesses, which Oxford Brookes hosted for the first time (Wednesday 12 September).
The colourful new designs feature bold, eye-catching icons and personalised registration plates, some reflecting different academic qualifications that can be awarded at the University such as MBA (Master’s in Business Administration).

Our BROOKESbus fleet is well-recognised across the city and provides a high-quality service for students, staff and the local community, which we are very proud of.
“With these fantastic new designs we want to inspire commuters to explore the learning and career opportunities available on their doorstep at Oxford Brookes.
“The buses are also part of our longstanding commitment to supporting environmentally-friendly, sustainable travel options and a great way to continue our successful, nine-year partnership with the Oxford Bus Company.”
In 2017 Oxford Brookes University and Oxford Bus Company received a national award for their strong partnership. The CUBO Award for Business Partner of the Year recognises achievements of those working within the higher education.
In recent years BROOKESbus has also won a number of environmental awards: Green World Ambassador Status in 2016, and both the Green Gown Award for Carbon Reduction and the Green Apple Award for Carbon Reduction in 2015.
Phil Southall, Managing Director of Oxford Bus Company, said: “The new BROOKESbus design look fantastic and I am sure it will be well received by our passengers. Our partnership with Oxford Brookes has gone from strength to strength over several years based on a shared commitment to providing a bus service that is sustainable, environmentally friendly and great value for money.
“We pride ourselves as being at the forefront green technology in the UK and our BROOKESbus fleet are all hybrid buses that help improve air quality in the communities we share. It is therefore befitting that we are launching the new designs at Venturefest, a fantastic showcase for innovation and tech in Oxford.”
Since 2009, the BROOKESbus fleet has moved almost 16 million passengers saving an estimated 1.4 million car journeys each year. Last year nearly 60% of all journeys were made by community members, providing an important service for local neighbourhoods and dramatically helping to reduce car trips in the area.
