Dr Daniela Treveri Gennari, Programme Lead for Film Studies at Oxford Brookes, has received the prestigious AHRC award and a £690,000 funding contribution for her ‘Lost Audiences’ research project.

Daniela’s achievement has resulted in one of the largest AHRC funds to be awarded to Oxford Brookes University.

Daniela’s ‘Lost Audiences’ research project focused on the gap in knowledge surrounding the Italian cinema-going public of the 1940s and 1950s, for whom cinema was by far the most popular pastime. Her research was praised by the AHRC for being the first detailed and wide-ranging analysis of cinema audiences in the Italian capital of Rome in the 1940s and 1950s. Similarly, she was highly commended for providing a new view of cinema-going in the post-war period, especially one which focuses on the everyday nature of the experience.

Upon receiving the award Daniela commented, “I feel extremely honoured to be given such an exceptional award for a project my colleagues and I have been working on for several years. This achievement shows recognition for such a pioneering and timely research study which attempts to rebuild a significant moment in film history."

Daniela now plans to further her ‘Lost Audiences’ research project by expanding her focus from Rome to the whole of Italy.
