A team of Oxford Brookes staff and students are getting their running shoes on for Oxford's first half marathon on Sunday 25 September 2011.
This exciting new road race starts and finishes at the Kassam Stadium, and is in support of the local charity Helen and Douglas House, whose Oxford base provides hospice care for children and young adults.
The Brookes runners include Emily Cox and Tim Fox of the Oxford Brookes Running and Athletics Club, together with staff members Harriet Waters (Sustainability Manager), Bob Price (Director of Human Resources), Juliet Bostwick (Programme Lead for Nursing Oxford), Ian Bruce (Web Designer), Liz Robertson (Careers Counsellor for international students) and Rachel Wilmshurst (Research Officer in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences).
An official partner of the event, Brookes has supported its team of runners by providing free use of its gyms at Headington and Harcourt Hill Campuses in their preparations for the race - facilities which are also open to the public.
The Centre for Sport in Headington has a state-of-the-art gym, Oxford's only climbing wall, fitness classes, racket sports and pitch and hall hire, while Westminster Sports Centre at Harcourt Hill also has a recently refurbished gym, heated swimming pool, squash and tennis courts and a golf course. There is also a range of fitness classes available free to many members.
