Brookes Women’s rowing squad make history at Henley

The Oxford Brookes Womens’ Eight squad triumphed at the Henley Women’s Regatta on Sunday (21 June).
The squad was crowned overall winners of the Senior Eights race at the competition, which sees rowing crews travel from around the world to compete on the famous Henley Regatta course.

The team beat Villanova University from the USA in the Quarter Finals and went on win the Semi-Final round against the University of London. In the Final, Brookes beat A.A.S.R Skoll from the Netherlands to win the GP Jeffries Memorial Trophy for the first time in the University’s history.
Allan French, Senior Women’s Squad Coach said: “The Brookes Women’s group has had a great year at the Women’s Head of the River competition in March, the British Universities Championships and various other races in the UK and abroad.
“Winning the Senior Eights at Henley Women’s Regatta is a fantastic end to the rowing year.”
Back in March, the Oxford Brookes finished as the top UK non-Ox Bridge crew at the Women’s Eights Head of the River, only beaten to the fastest University award by the Cambridge University crew. The Oxford Brookes Mens’ squad will be competing at Henley Royal Regatta which begins on 1 July.
