Oxford Brookes has announced that Joanna Simons, the Chief Executive of Oxfordshire County Council, will be the new Chair of the Board of Governors.

Joanna Simons replaces Tim Stevenson, who steps down as chair in autumn after four years in the role.

I hope that we can build on the existing strong links between the University and the County Council in areas like education, business development and health and social care. I hope that my appointment will lead to even more opportunities for us to make a positive impact on our region and beyond."

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, said “With Joanna’s extensive experience of leading local authorities and connections to the voluntary sector I know we have found someone who will help move the University to the next stage of our development.

“I am confident that, as we have prospered under the leadership of Tim Stevenson, so we will continue to enhance our regional, national and international reputation with Joanna as our new chair.”

Tim Stevenson said: “I am delighted to be handing on the role of Chair to Joanna. Brookes is positioned to enter a new era of even greater success in an increasingly demanding market for higher education: her experience and skills will be invaluable in leading the Board of Governors ”

During Tim Stevenson’s tenure, Oxford Brookes has been named the UK’s leading modern university seven times by the Sunday Times and was recently awarded its second Queen’s Anniversary Prize for excellence in higher education.
