Brookes' rowers brought home gold from two international competitions this summer.
Brookes’ rowers have brought home gold from two international competitions held over the summer, marking a fantastic achievement for British rowing.
Karl Hudspith, Matthew Tarrant and Scott Durant were part of the men’s eights gold medal- winning crew who competed at the 11th World University Rowing Championships in Szeged, Hungary.
They recorded a time of just under six minutes in the 2000m race, with Estonia coming in at a close second, followed by Ireland.
Chloe Willis, Katherine Douglas, Elizabeth Cottrell and Tina Thomas won gold in the women’s coxless fours at the European Universities Championships in Amsterdam.
The experienced crew established an early lead and were just over three seconds shy of the European University Sports Association record.
Coach Richard Spratley said: “We’re all absolutely thrilled. It was a fantastic effort by both teams and it’s great to see all their hard work pay off.
“This certainly bodes well for the future. I believe they have a very serious chance of being selected for the 2012 Olympics.”
