An extension to the BROOKESbus route has been launched to provide a quicker service to Wheatley Campus.

The U5X will run from The Plain via Cowley Road, Hollow Way then direct to Wheatley Campus by way of Horspath Driftway, Eastern bypass and the A40. It complements the U1/NU1 Harcourt Hill Campus - City - Headington – Wheatley and U5/NU5 Marston - Brookes - Cowley – City.

The operation is run by Oxford Bus Company on behalf of Oxford Brookes University.

Oxford Bus Company’s Managing Director Philip Kirk said, “We are delighted to be introducing the extended service. We expect it will be extremely popular especially with people living in the area around The Slade. It could cut their journey time to Wheatley Campus from over an hour to just twenty minutes.”

The additional buses mark a successful first year of partnership between Oxford Brookes University and Oxford Bus Company who took over its operation just over a year ago.

Philip continued, “It’s been a really thriving partnership and between us we’ve been able to respond to the needs of the University and the passengers who use BROOKESbus.

“In the last year the operation has grown significantly, with thirteen new jobs created.”

Oxford Brookes University’s Registrar, Paul Large, said: “We are pleased to work in partnership with Oxford Bus Company to provide the BROOKESbus, which is popular with Oxford residents as well as our own students and staff. The vehicles in the fleet meet high environmental standards and are an excellent way to travel between campuses and the city centre.

“Oxford Brookes is proud to have had a sustainable travel plan for more than 10 years. We’re committed to encouraging our students and staff to use sustainable transport, wherever possible, and our investment in the BROOKESbus is just one of the ways we can make a contribution.”
