Thursday, 22 May 2014
BBC Radio 4's Food Programme has broadcast a wide-ranging two-part interview with Ken Hom, the celebrated chef, broadcaster and patron of Oxford Gastronomica, Oxford Brookes' centre for the study of food, drink and culture.
In the second of the two interviews focused on Ken's life and work, Don Sloan, Head of the Oxford School of Hospitality Management, talks about Ken's link with the School and tireless work with students.
"He gives an extraordinary amount of his time to focus particularly on the students," explains Don. "He's particularly interested in encouraging young people who have an interest in food and drink and their place in culture and he's here so much he's really like part of the team at Oxford Brookes now."
Don continues: "He's a natural educator and the young people at Oxford Brookes really recognise they have got a lot to learn by spending time with him."
You can listen to the programme on the BBC website.
Ken has been a patron of Oxford Gastronomica since 2007. He has also been awarded an honorary doctorate from Brookes in recognition of his outstanding success within the international food world.
As a Patron of Oxford Gastronomica, Ken acts as a global ambassador for Brookes, and for the power of higher education more widely.
