Jerry Rothwell joins the Documentary Club for a Q&A
Wednesday, 13 April 2016
This Thursday (14 April) students will have the opportunity to quiz award-winning director and filmmaker Jerry Rothwell as he joins this week’s Documentary Club.
Jerry will be taking part in a Q&A session after the screening of his feature documentary How to Change The World at Oxford Brookes.
Jerry, whose other works include the award-winning feature documentaries Donor Unknown, Heavy Load and Deep Water, said: “I’m very excited to screen How To Change The World at Oxford Brookes – the chance to talk about the ideas raised in the films with students is a great privilege. Particularly amongst student audiences it always raises interesting debates about how change happens and how movements are built.”

How to Change the World premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2015 and chronicles the adventures of an eclectic group of young Canadian environmentalists who set out to stop Nixon’s atomic bomb tests in Amchitka, Alaska in the 1970s and end up inventing environmental activism. Later, this rag-tag group of activists gave away their central role to create Greenpeace International. The film went on to win a string of awards including the World Doc Special Jury Award and Candescent Award at Sundance Film Festival 2015, Best Feature Film at Portland EcoFilm Festival 2015, Best Documentary at the Reykjavik International Film Festival 2015 and was nominated for Best Documentary at the British Independent Film Awards 2015.
The Documentary Club previously screened another of Jerry's films, Town of Runners.
The Documentary Club’s screening of How to Change the World takes place on Thursday 14 April, 7.00pm-8.00pm in the John Henry Brookes Lecture Theatre, Headington Campus. The Documentary Club is free and open to all. More information about how to book your place can be found on the Events webpages.
Coming up next month, the Oxford Brookes Documentary Club will host the first Oxford Filmmakers Night. The evening will celebrate filmmakers in Oxford with a screening of short documentary films made by students, staff or members of the local community.
