Candle in dark

Oxford Brookes is taking part in the 'Lights Out' campaign in remembrance of the start of The First World War

The front of the new John Henry Brookes Building will be dark on Monday the fourth of August between 10 and 11 pm as part of a national campaign to remember the beginning of The First World War.

The campaign, titled ‘Lights Out’, is asking people and organisations to simultaneously switch off lights across the country, as one hundred years ago to the day, Britain stood on the brink of entering World War One.

The lights at the front of the John Henry Brookes Building, alongside a number of other buildings and homes across the country will be switched off between 10 and 11pm.

The rest of the building will still be in use and accessible at this time.
