Low carbon community paper wins award at International conference

An Oxford Brookes research paper has won an award for ‘Best Paper’ at the 30th International Passive and Low Energy Architecture (PLEA) conference
An Oxford Brookes research paper has won an award for ‘Best Paper’ at the 30th International Passive and Low Energy Architecture (PLEA) conference held in Ahmedabad, India between the 16th and 18th December.
The research paper, ‘A quiet revolution: Mapping energy use in low carbon communities’, was written by Professor Rajat Gupta and Research Fellow Matt Gregg from the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development (OISD) at Oxford Brookes as part of the EVALOC project.

EVALOC is a three year collaborative project between a team of researchers from the Low Carbon Building Group of Oxford Brookes University and the Environmental Change Institute of University of Oxford. EVALOC has been funded with £1.14 million by Research Councils UK to explore energy use in community activities and come up with new ideas to support more sustainable living.
Prof Rajat Gupta, Director of the OISD and the Low Carbon Building Group said: “We are delighted to receive this Best-Paper award on our carbon mapping research. This award will further enhance our international esteem and impact in the field of low carbon buildings.”
PLEA is a leading international network of academics and practitioners that share expertise in the arts, sciences, planning and design of the built environment. They organise international conferences and workshops, expert group meetings and consultancies, scientific and technical publications, and architectural competitions and exhibitions. The PLEA conference was attended by 500 delegates from 50 countries and approximately 200 research papers were presented.
Rajat Gupta is Professor of Sustainable Architecture and Climate Change and Director of the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development at Oxford Brookes University. Matt Gregg is a Research Fellow in Architecture and Climate Change at the Low Carbon Building Group of the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development Oxford Brookes.
