Managing Equality and Diversity wins top CMI award

Dr Simonetta Manfredi has been recognised with the Chartered Management Institute’s (CMI) Management and Leadership Textbook of the Year Award 2013.
Dr Manfredi, Reader at Oxford Brookes and Director of the Centre for Diversity Policy, co-authored Managing Diversity and Equality: Theory and Practice with Dr Savita Kumra, who is formally of the University’s Business School and now a Senior Lecturer at Brunel Business School.
This CMI accolade is given to the entry which most effectively supports a course of study on management and leadership. The award was presented at the third annual awards evening held at the British Library Conference Centre last week (28 January).
Dr Manfredi responded to the award win by saying: “I am absolutely delighted with this award. Above all I am really pleased that equality and diversity have been recognised as an important issue for management and leadership.”
The judging panel’s comments were particularly complimentary with Dr Karin Moser stating that the book was “of interest to practising managers as well as academics. This is a rare combination and achievement that makes this textbook standout”.
Mick Gillick MBE, added: “I strongly recommend this book to every member of the CMI...it is suitable for anyone who wants to know more about how to create an inclusive culture in the workplace and it is essential reading for senior management”.
Dr Manfredi recently spoke with The Guardian on the need for greater gender and BME equality for Professorial roles within Higher Education. This month will also see Oxford Brookes host a legacy event following last year’s Women and Leadership conference.
The Centre for Diversity Policy was established in 2004 as an interdisciplinary, cross-institutional centre which specialises in research and knowledge transfer in the area of equality and diversity management in the workplace.
