Prof Chris Cooper appointed new Dean of Oxford Brookes Business School with effect from Sept 1.
Professor Chris Cooper has been appointed as Dean of Oxford Brookes Business School with effect from September 1 2009.
Professor Cooper is currently at the University of Nottingham Business School, where he is Director of the Christel DeHaan Tourism and Travel Research Centre. He was previously Professor and Head of the School of Tourism at the University of Queensland, Australia.
Professor Cooper graduated in Geography from University College London, where he also went on to complete his PhD. His early career was in the travel industry and the Universities of Surrey and Bournemouth.
He has very extensive international research and consultancy experience and a well established reputation as an international leader in tourism education. He has published very widely and edits three book series in tourism.
He is a member of the Editorial Board for a number of key journals, and a member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization Leadership Forum and Panel of Experts. In this capacity, he was chair of the UNWTO’s Education Council, the peak body for tourism education globally, from 2005-7, and was a lead member of the team which designed an executive education programme on the academic management of tourism and hotel schools. He is also an Honorary Professor at three Chinese universities.
He has demonstrated in his previous senior appointments that he has the vision, drive and strategic skills to lead the Business School through the next phase of its successful development.
