Oxford Brookes University will welcome Ken Hom at this year’s OutBurst festival.

The TV chef and leading authority on Chinese cuisine will host a live cooking demonstration and talk about his life in food as the festival on Saturday 6 May.

Ken is also an honorary graduate and the Founding Patron of Oxford Gastronomica, the Centre for Food, Drink and Culture at Oxford Brookes University. OutBurst is a three-day annual festival showcasing ideas, activities and entertainment inspired by the research and teaching at Oxford Brookes University. The festival takes place from Thursday 4 May – Saturday 6 May at Pegasus Theatre.

We like to make the festival as varied as possible to give people an idea of the vast range of expertise and fascinating research that’s happening at Oxford Brookes. There really is something for everyone and I hope the local community will come and enjoy the festival with us.

New on the programme for this year’s festival is a performance by Stones Theatre Company, Radiant Vermin – a darkly humorous story of expectant couple Jill and Ollie trying to get their feet on the property ladder.

Visitors can also battle the Sumo Robots, take part in Tai Chi and Kung Fu workshops (for children and adults), learn Chinese calligraphy and paper crafts in the taster sessions and create a virtual painting in 3D using the latest 3D Virtual Reality technology.

Join Finnish singer / songwriter Laura Ryhänen and writer and director Ahmed Masoud for an evening of readings and music which explores the concept of roots, home and migration in HOME/LESS.

Rycote Furniture Centre collaborates with the This Girl Makes initiative to present an inclusive and practical Furniture Design Workshop. With all equipment provided, participants will be able to crate and take hom with them, a small furniture item of their own design.

This year also sees the return of OutBurst favourites: Artie the humanoid robot, the Drawing with Light workshop, face-painting and the Creative Writing Masters’ students showcase their work.
