Oxford Brookes campuses feature twice in the UK's Top Ten favourite parks

Two of Oxford Brookes University's campuses have today been voted into the top ten of the country's most cherished green spaces in the annual People's Choice Award public poll.

Two of Oxford Brookes University’s campuses have today been voted into the top ten of the country’s most cherished green spaces in the annual People’s Choice Award public poll.

 

All Green Flag Award-winning parks and green spaces were entered into the annual poll, which saw thousands of people voting for their favourite green space.

This is the first year Oxford Brookes has entered the Green Flag Awards, with the university’s Harcourt Hill Campus claiming sixth spot with Headington Campus coming in at number nine.

Professor Janet Beer, Vice-Chancellor at Oxford Brookes University, commented on the announcement by saying: “The recognition of two of our campuses as being in the top ten favourite green spaces in the country is a fantastic achievement. The People’s Choice Award acknowledges the excellent work of our grounds staff who do a exceptional job in providing inspiring environments for our students, staff and the local community.”

Tom Williams, Grounds Manager for Oxford Brookes, said: “We are delighted to have received national recognition for the grounds at Headington Hill and Harcourt Hill. I would like to thank the grounds team for their hard work in ensuring that Oxford Brookes’ grounds add beauty and character to our landscape and local community.”

Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Scheme manager, added: “Congratulations to Oxford Brookes University who feature twice in this year’s People’s Choice Award top ten, proof that both the Harcourt Hill and Headington campuses have a special place in the heart of the local community. Quality parks and green spaces play a vital role within local communities and having access to places like Harcourt Hill and Headington is important to us all.”

Over 13,000 votes where received this year with sites ranging from traditional parks and country parks to university campuses and cemeteries featuring in the top ten.
