Brookes Nursery

The Oxford Brookes University Day Nursery has retained its ‘Outstanding’ rating, the highest Ofsted grade available.

The inspection report was particularly positive about staff at the nursery and praised the team for being fully committed to ensuring children develop the skills they need for future learning. The report also noted that the nursery is exceptionally skilled at promoting children’s independence and doing everything they can to ensure children feel safe, secure and welcome.

I am extremely proud of the whole staff team for transferring their passion for their work into such valuable learning opportunities for the children.

Findings from the inspection report said: “Children’s needs are exceptionally well met by committed staff, who are passionate about what they do. They make accurate assessments about children’s abilities and skills and use this information to plan, with parents, how to extend children’s learning further.

“Babies and toddlers squeal with delight as they explore water, sand and a host of fascinating resources. Older children cannot wait to take part in all the activities on offer; from campfire cookery to pirate games.”

Commenting on the Ofsted result, Nursery and Childcare Services Manager, Sarah Hinkin said: “I am thrilled that Ofsted have recognised our absolute commitment and determination for providing children and their families with childcare of the highest quality.

“I am extremely proud of the whole staff team for transferring their passion for their work into such valuable learning opportunities for the children.

“For me, the most satisfying piece in the report is where the inspector writes – ‘It is not always easy to establish who enjoys being at nursery the most, the children or the staff, such are the levels of laughter and smiles from all concerned…’.  To me this describes an environment with high levels of well-being for both children and staff, essential for high level learning, which is what we aim for.

“I’d like to thank our parents for being such wonderful, willing partners in engaging with us to maximise their children’s experiences.”

The nursery is a purpose built building which accommodates 54 children between the ages of 4 months and 5 years, and has two large outdoor play areas. The nursery provides childcare for students and staff of Oxford Brookes University.
