A group of Oxford Brookes University film students led by Govind Chandran, Technical Specialist in Film Studies at Brookes will be attending the Cannes Film Festival next week for a screening of their new film.
Govind who graduated from Brookes in 2010 with a BA honours degree in Film Studies is no stranger to the Cannes Film Festival. One of his films was screened in 2009, while he was still a student. ‘Double or Nothing’ was well received as part of the festival’s ‘Short Film Corner’.
Govind commented ‘The Cannes Film Festival is an amazing experience. It just blew me away last time I was there. It is such a great opportunity to meet film industry professionals.’
This year’s film ‘The Gamble’ is a crime comedy about the theft of livestock. Filming took place on a farm location, at Oxford Town Hall and in and around Oxford Brookes and features Oxford Brookes students Luke Osbond and Joshua Taylor-Davies, alongside a diverse cast including Canadian actress Katherine Leithead.
Govind will be leading a film project in the summer for Brookes students and alumni who will be mentored by film industry professionals, with a wide range of experience. ‘Mask of Sanity’ which Govind describes as ‘dark but uplifting’ will bring together students from across various fields at the University.
