Wednesday, 16 November 2016
Results of the annual Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) saw Oxford Brookes achieve an overall course satisfaction rate of 84 per cent, which sits above the sector average of 83 per cent and is an improvement on last year’s score (82 per cent).
Brookes was in the sector upper quartile for satisfaction in the areas of Engagement, Dissertation/Project, Organisation & Management, and Skills Development.
The above sector satisfaction responses from Brookes postgraduates recognise that the strong staff engagement in a wide range of areas and thus the PTES outcomes, together with the increasing response rate, provide a good view of the quality of our postgraduate provisionProfessor Julie McLeod , Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience)
The survey is divided into eight teaching and learning categories (shown below), with Brookes performing as well as, or better, than the sector in every area:
- Teaching & Learning
- Assessment & Feedback
- Dissertation or Major Project
- Organisation & Management
- Resources & Services
- Skills Development
The satisfaction rate for Skills Development, which relates to the development of postgraduate students’ skills around research, effective communication, and career preparedness, compares particularly well to sector performance (82 per cent satisfaction for Brookes compared to the sector’s 78 per cent).
The following subject areas have an overall satisfaction rate in the highest quartile, in relation to institutions across the UK:
- Computer Science
- Communications & Information Studies
- Electronic and Electrical Engineering
- Finance & Accounting
2016 saw marked increase in engagement with the survey compared to previous years, with 801 respondents, bringing Brookes in line with the sector average response rate of 30 per cent.
Responding to the results Professor Julie McLeod, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience), said: “The above sector satisfaction responses from Brookes postgraduates recognise that the strong staff engagement in a wide range of areas and thus the PTES outcomes, together with the increasing response rate, provide a good view of the quality of our postgraduate provision.”
