Oxford Brookes University announces Interim Vice Chancellor

Professor Alistair Fitt will take on the role of Interim Vice Chancellor at Oxford Brookes from Monday 2 February 2015.
Currently the University’s Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange, Alistair is a highly respected researcher in the field of mathematics.

Alistair was previously Pro Vice Chancellor with a focus on international at the University of Southampton, where he worked for 22 years. He has an excellent understanding of Higher Education and is highly regarded by colleagues across the sector.
Alistair said of his appointment: “It is an honour to be taking on this interim role and I am looking forward to building on Janet’s excellent work in leading Oxford Brookes over the coming months. I am particularly pleased to lead the University during the celebration of its 150thanniversary, which will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the University’s history, achievements and future.”
Speaking on the appointment, Geoffrey Donnelly, Chair of the Board of Governors, said: “During his time at the University, Alistair has played a vital role in its continued success. He is exceedingly well placed to provide the necessary continuity and momentum during this interim period and I am very pleased that he has agreed to take on this role.”
Oxford Brookes’ current Vice Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, is due to leave the University at the end of January 2015 to take up her new role as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Liverpool.
Interviews for a permanent replacement are scheduled to take place at the end of January.
