Oxford Brookes University ranked as top tier university in sustainable energy

Price comparison service Uswitch has ranked Oxford Brookes as a top tier university in its Renewable University Report 2020.
Uswitch examined which universities are doing the most to limit their effect on the environment. The report places Oxford Brookes higher than 50% of UK universities.
Oxford Brookes scored positively in the three requirements considered important to be a leader in sustainable energy: having solar PV installations, being on a ‘green’ energy tariff, and having a carbon management plan which includes further renewable energy initiatives.
Gavin Hodgson, Energy & Carbon Reduction Manager at Oxford Brookes, said: “Oxford Brookes has been a champion of sustainability for many years and we are very happy to be acknowledged as a leader in sustainable energy by Uswitch.
“We have made big strides in recent years to make our University as sustainable as possible, including the installation of rooftop solar PV panels. We will be doubling our existing capacity this November, adding just under 300kWp of state-of-the-art PV panels; you can check out the current PV installations, as highlighted in the Uswitch survey, on Google Earth (OX3 0BP).
“Sustainability is at the heart of our Strategy 2020 which has provided high level direction for the University over the past decade. Our 'Energy and Carbon Reduction Strategy' is currently being revised to reflect our long term vision in this important arena.”
Sarah Broomfield, energy expert at Uswitch.com, commented on the positive news of top tier universities: “It’s great to see that some universities are going above and beyond when it comes to sustainability.
“Having renewable installations on campus and schemes in place to produce more of their own renewable energy shows that they are leading by example in trying to achieve net-zero carbon emissions."
