The latest edition of Observe – the magazine for Oxford Brookes’ alumni, supporters and friends – is now available to read.
Articles from the 2018/19 publication, which is also sent directly to graduates of the University, can be read online via Observe’s dedicated webpages.
The cover feature is an interview with the award-winning hip-hop star and Oxford Brookes Honorary Graduate Akala. He discusses the Hip-Hop Shakespeare Company he founded, education and making it cool to be clever.
Social and Political Studies alumnus Daniel Battsek is now Director of Film 4 and met up with the University earlier this year to discuss his career. Daniel also talks about how impressed he has been on his recent visits to Oxford Brookes.
Observe features Lily Simpson, a graduate in Real Estate Management, who founded the Detox Kitchen in 2012. The company has grown into a highly successful healthy meals delivery service with delis in central London. Lily now combines her role as CEO with raising a young family.
Other features include a report on Oxford Brookes Racing’s success at Silverstone in July, insights into how J Haynes is bringing new products to the market in addition to the iconic Haynes Manuals, and how the University’s partnership with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants is transforming the lives and careers of students across the globe.
Writing for the introduction of Observe, Vice-Chancellor Professor Alistair Fitt notes that “the last year has presented a world of challenges and opportunities for the higher education sector, which continues to evolve at a rapid and often bewildering pace.” The latest edition of Observe clearly demonstrates the many great things which Oxford Brookes’ students, staff and graduates are doing on a daily basis to meet these challenges and opportunities.
Don’t miss the chance to read the many interesting features and extra content which includes video, image galleries and the chance to take part in an interactive Akala or Shakespeare quiz!
