As part of Universities Week, Oxford Brookes showcased the latest developments in its renowned School of Life Sciences. Brookes has been joining universities across the country in highlighting the essential role the institutions play in the life of our communities.
One of the themes of Universities Week is the impact of research. The showcase at Brookes was aimed at members of the science community and community group leaders who were able to learn more about Brookes’ science outreach programme.
Research showcased included work of the Functional Food Centre, the Human Performance Unit and the Bioimaging Centre; the leading research and dedicated facilities which have made Brookes a centre of excellence for the life science disciplines.
Brookes’ successful spinout companies also attended. They included Oxford Bioscience Network which promotes biotechnology business and research enterprise across Oxfordshire.
Professor Chris Hawes, Director of the Research School (pictured) said: “It was a great opportunity to bring people who are interested in science together to inform them of what’s new in life sciences at Brookes. As part of Universities Week, we also showed how Brookes is having an impact both on the economy and on science education in Oxfordshire schools through our lively outreach programme.
