At a full council meeting, City Councillors approve revised plans for new library and teaching facilities.

At a full council meeting, City Councillors have taken the decision to approve Oxford Brookes University’s revised plans for new library and teaching facilities at the Gipsy Lane site.

Speaking after the meeting Vice Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer said,

"We are delighted by this decision which marks the beginning of vital improvements to our facilities. This development will provide generations of students with inspirational teaching and learning spaces.

"The decision comes after extensive consultation and discussion and we are committed to working closely with local residents and the Council. We will continue to work to address the concerns of our neighbours as well as the more proactive approach to wider community issues that has begun.

"I want to thank the many individuals from the local community who have worked with us to find the best possible solution to concerns whilst preserving the vision.

"Oxford Brookes makes a huge contribution to the economic well-being of the city and the region – we add £1m a day to the local and national economy. These new facilities are essential to the continued success of the university."
