Student experience on the rise at Oxford Brookes
Thursday, 17 March 2016
Oxford Brookes has risen for the second year running in a survey of student experience at UK universities.
The rankings are revealed today (17 March) in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2016.
More than 15,000 full-time undergraduates at 117 universities across the UK were asked how strongly they agreed that their university offered a number of different provisions including high quality staff/lectures, good extra-curricular activities and good support and welfare.
Since 2014 Oxford Brookes has risen 30 places in the survey, and is just outside the top 50 universities this year.
I am delighted to see our efforts reflected in the positive results today. They serve as a clear indication that we are heading in the right direction in providing students with the things that matter to them the most.Julie McLeod, Pro Vice Chancellor Student Experience, Oxford Brookes University
Of the 21 different provisions students are surveyed on, Oxford Brookes has improved in 18 (and stayed the same as in 2015 for the other three). Top provisions were good extra-curricular activities, high-quality facilities, good environment on campus/around university, good social life and good community atmosphere.
Julie McLeod, Pro Vice Chancellor Student Experience said: “It is encouraging to see Oxford Brookes continuing to improve in this student experience survey.
“Enhancing the student experience is a clear priority for the University and we have worked hard over the last few years to make a number of improvements, including significant improvements to the quality of our teaching and learning facilities, most recognisably with the opening of our multi-award winning John Henry Brookes Building, which we officially opened last year.
“I am delighted to see our efforts reflected in the positive results today. They serve as a clear indication that we are heading in the right direction in providing students with the things that matter to them the most.”
“We will continue to invest further in student experience over the coming years, through our ten year estates investment plan to ensure high quality facilities across all campuses and through our dedicated programme to enhance the student experience. This is a cross-University programme, innovative to the sector, which is going from strength to strength.”
In 2015 Oxford Brookes reached an all-time high in the National Student Survey (NSS), improving its score for overall student satisfaction for the fourth year in a row.
The results saw the University move in to the top quarter for higher education institutions in England with its highest ever score, ranking it 17th among 126 higher education institutions in England. It was shown to be leading the sector with teaching on courses, personal development and the learning community, as well achieving significant success for overall satisfaction in a wide range of subject areas.
In January this year the University was listed as one of the world’s top universities for its international outlook in another of THE’s university rankings, the Top 200 Most International Universities.
