Brookes has just received a silver EcoCampus award in recognition of the work going on to improve the environmental sustainability of its campuses.

EcoCampus is a national programme designed to help implement environmental management systems in Higher Education institutions.

The University reached the bronze benchmark in December 2007 and has progressed to the next level in just a matter of months.

In attaining the silver award Brookes had to demonstrate that recycling facilities exist in its buildings and student accommodation, and that it had revised its environmental policy to reflect targets and objectives.

Environmental Co-ordinator Harriet Waters commented: 'This is a fantastic achievement for Brookes and really underscores our commitment to improving our environmental impact.'

'Yet again, Brookes has demonstrated it is at the forefront of the sustainability agenda in the HE sector. We will now be working towards achieving gold and platinum accreditation.'
