UTC Swindon’s first Year 13 students are celebrating their A level results today.

In addition to a 100 per cent pass rate in all A-level subjects, 24 per cent of students in level 3 engineering achieved three Distinction *’s.

Speaking about this success, the UTC’s Principal, Angela Barker-Dench, said, “I am delighted with the progress of our first cohort of Year 13 graduates. We are committed to supporting our students in achieving their potential and it’s great to see this realised.

“A significant number of our students have progressed into apprenticeships and university degrees in engineering and I know these students also have bright futures ahead of them. I wish them every success in the future.”

Open since September 2014, UTC Swindon caters for 600 students aged 14 to 19. The college provides GCSE and A levels, BTEC qualifications in Engineering and IT are available for young people to study alongside both GCSE's and A-levels.

UTC students

UTC Swindon is different to an existing traditional school, delivering first class education in an environment that feels like the ‘workplace’. This is achieved by delivering the curriculum through employer-set ‘projects’ which tackle real industry issues.

These results are testament to their hard work and dedication and reflect the excellent teaching at UTC Swindon.

Working with its sponsors, Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells and Oxford Brookes University, UTC Swindon addresses the divide between education and industry, giving students a competitive edge to secure first class careers.

Professor Gareth Neighbour, Member of the Board of Directors and Head of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at Oxford Brookes University, said, ‘'I'm really pleased to see the hard work of our A-level students has paid off. These results are testament to their hard work and dedication and reflect the excellent teaching at UTC Swindon."

UTC Swindon is open this month for visits and there is still time to enrol for September 2016.
