Speaking your language

The international team at Oxford Brookes have been developing new materials designed to help prospective students find out about the University in their own languages.
The latest of these is the creation of a new micro-website in Russian which can be
found at www.oxfordbrookes.ru
The site promotes key reasons for Russian students to choose Brookes, as well as giving detailed information on courses and useful contacts.
The creation of this site follows the successful launch of in-language sites in Japan (www.oxfordbrookes.jp), Thailand (www.oxfordbrookesthailand.com), and Taiwan (www.oxfordbrookes.tw).
Head of International Recruitment Suzanne Mowat commented:
“We aim to make it as easy as possible for people to find the information they need and
sometimes this means reading it in their own language. These sites have also been proving popular with parents, who may not have English as their second language, but want to help their sons and daughters make an informed choice.”
But translation isn’t just confined to the web.
The International Student Guide has also been translated into Arabic, which proved invaluable to International Officer Nick Chavasse on his recent trip to Iraq and the Gulf States, and there are plans to translate more materials including those specifically promoting International Foundation and Pre-Master’s courses, which are currently available in Russian and Turkish.
