    Paul O'Connor

    Paul O’Connor was appointed as an Independent Governor at Oxford Brookes University in 2017. Paul graduated with an Architectural Studies degree from Oxford Polytechnic in 1980.  He worked in the Voluntary Housing Movement in the Midlands and the South West before joining the NHS in 1991.

    Paul has held a variety of senior management positions in the NHS, culminating in four chief executive roles spanning acute, specialist, community and mental health services in North London, Birmingham, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. He specialises in leading transformational change in organisations and health systems which have experienced severe operational, financial and / or governance difficulties.  
     
    He has developed an approach to driving performance turnaround by developing health and social care systems which work across organisational and professional boundaries. He has held a variety of NED/Customer Board roles, including NHS Supply Chain and Medipex – an NHS/Commercial innovation interface company, as well as chairing the UK Children’s Healthcare Association and the healthcare providers within the Nottinghamshire Learning Education and Training Board.
     
    Paul now runs his own consultancy, Healthcare Leadership Solutions Ltd.  He travels extensively and has worked overseas on behalf of the NHS in consultancy roles in Dubai, the Republic of Ireland, Soweto and The West Bank. Paul is married and has five grown up children.
