Face coverings

Looking after yourself and each other

We can all look after each other and help to limit the spread of Covid-19 by wearing face coverings and following other health measures such as regular hand washing, twice-weekly testing and self-isolating when we have symptoms or are advised to by NHS Test & Trace.

We ask that students, staff and visitors respect the Covid-secure measures that we have in place on our campuses for everyone’s safety.

Wear face coverings on campus

We take our responsibility to provide a safe environment for our students, staff and visitors seriously. For this reason our requirement for everyone on campus to wear a face covering is still in place, even though there has been a relaxation in most of the government’s Covid restrictions.

Face coverings limit the spread of Covid-19 from the mouth or nose of an infected person. We consider them to be one of the most important safety measures to have in place on campus. Remember that those around you may not yet be double vaccinated, or may be clinically vulnerable - wearing a face covering on campus helps create a safe environment for all.

We are sensitive to the needs of those who are unable to wear face coverings, and sunflower lanyards are available to order from the online shop.

Please note, you are not required to wear face coverings when you are seated while eating or drinking, taking part in physical activities indoors at Brookes Sport, or while outdoors.

Why continue to wear face coverings?

Wearing a face covering, unless you are exempt, inside Oxford Brookes buildings is a simple action that demonstrates our care and respect for other students, staff, visitors and the local community. So, unless you are medically exempt, everyone is required to wear a face covering in the following areas:

  • In teaching rooms during in-person teaching
  • In libraries
  • In communal areas such as study spaces, corridors and staircases, lifts and toilets

For the safety of the whole Brookes community, we ask students, staff and visitors to wear face coverings indoors and in crowded areas on campus.

Our spaces on campus have been risk assessed on the basis of students, staff and visitors wearing face coverings - please continue to wear them on campus so that in-person activities such as teaching and the delivery of student support services can continue safely as planned. Our Campus Monitors, and other members of staff, may approach those who are not wearing a mask or a sunflower lanyard, and ask them to put on a mask. Please help our Brookes community by encouraging your fellow students to respond politely to any such request.
