The Chartered Surveyor degree apprenticeship is a 5 year course which develops the behaviours and skills required for a career as a chartered surveyor practicing in Real Estate, through the Commercial Property Surveyors or Valuation Surveyors pathways.

On completion, successful apprentices will gain a BSc (Hons) degree in Real Estate and hold the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence enabling them to become full chartered members of RICS.

Who is it for?

This apprenticeship is ideal for trainee surveyors in real estate settings.

Entry requirements, application process and costs

  • The cost for the Apprenticeship for 2022 entry: £27,000 (drawn down from the monthly employer levy)
  • Level 3 qualification in a related subject (eg 3 A Levels, a BTEC Extended Diploma, or access to HE Diploma). We would typically be looking for candidates to achieve 112 UCAS tariff points.
  • Employers should contact the University Apprenticeship team. We’ll carry out an initial assessment to ensure the apprenticeship is suitable for the candidates and meets employer’s requirements. A contract and commitment statement will need to be agreed prior to signing up an apprentice.

English & Maths Level 2 are discretionary for entry if not already held; however, both must be completed by gateway of the End Point Assessment.

This programme is subject to the validation and accreditation by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Modules and teaching overview

The course typically runs for 5 years, and apprentices study all year round, attending intensive workshop blocks over the course of the year and completing the remainder of their study and assessments through online learning.

End Point Assessment

Following completion of their degree and the required work-based practice, the apprentice will be entered for the End Point Assessment - the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). The APC comprises:

  • A final log book demonstrating the knowledge and experience for each of the APC competencies completed over a minimum of 24 months
  • A summary of experience as it relates to both the APC mandatory competencies and the technical competencies required by RICS for the apprentice’s chosen APC pathway
  • A case study of a project or piece of work with which the apprentice has been involved
  • A record of Continuing Professional Development
  • An interview which requires apprentices to demonstrate, in support of the written submissions, their understanding of the knowledge and competencies gained.
