MSc Conservation Ecology student Jonathan Pearce has been featured in an article in the Oxford Mail, where he discusses his important dissertation research. His studies about Biodiversity Offsetting focused on a local housing development, where developers agreed to invest in grasslands in Berkshire to mitigate their impact on breeding bird populations. However, under Biodiversity Offsetting, he found the developers would have to spend at least four times as much to bring the grasslands up to the same biodiversity value as the construction area.

Mr Pearce's dissertation, 'Biodiversity Offsetting in Oxfordshire: an assessment of challenges and opportunities', has been nominated for this year’s Student Projects Award by the prestigious Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). The winner of the prize will be announced at an awards ceremony on June 26 at Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
